Abstract: The existing regulatory framework in the United States for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, or drones) desperately needs updates in order to capitalize on the benefits of drones’ commercial usage. American lawmakers can draw inspiration from foreign lawmakers and regulatory bodies in Canada, Australia, and Asia in creating a sensible framework that integrates the use of commercial drones.1 A new regulatory framework customized to address the different usage priorities of commercial drones will unleash American businesses’ potential to utilize drones in various commercial operations and to stay competitive in the fight for market share in capturing the multiple billion dollar global drones market.
