Banking Crises and Safeguards: Re-examining the 2023 Collapse

November 1, 2023

Strawn Hall
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Journal of International Law and Business (JILB) is honored to present its annual symposium, focusing on the pivotal March 2023 bank collapses. A deeper investigation brings forth pressing questions about the efficacy of post-2008 safeguards and their inability to stave off the failures.

To address these concerns, JILB brings together a renowned panel of banking law experts: Mr. Edwin del Hierro, at the helm of Kirkland and Ellis’s bank and financial services regulatory practice; Professor Mehrsa Baradaran, visiting professor from the University of California Irvine School of Law; and Professor Robert Fleetwood, adjunct professor and co-chair of the financial institutions group at Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg. Their insights will delve into the mechanisms of the banking industry, shedding light on regulatory practices and the challenges they face.

This symposium serves as a platform for reflection and foresight, encouraging discourse on how the banking sector can fortify its defenses against unforeseen financial tremors in the future. With the collaboration of our esteemed panel, the event promises to open up valuable perspectives and avenues for further research.
